Conventional mechanical key locks are cheap and simple.
However, they can become an expensive affair if a key is damaged or lost.
Cost trap: key lock
When keys break, duplicates must be made, which can easily cost over €150 each. In addition, you often have to provide the last working key as a template for the new one(s). This creates an unpredictable period during which you have no access to the safe. If a key is lost, it is necessary for security reasons to replace the entire lock. The costs include not only the price of the lock and key itself but also the service fee charged by the safe technician for installation.
Replacement keys in a flash
A real difference is made by one of our adjustable key locks. This type of mechanical lock can adapt to new pre-made keys. The trick: while the safe is open, the locks can be set to a change mode, either by pressing a button on the housing or using an insertable change tool. The old key can then be removed and a new key inserted. By turning the new key, the lock “learns” the coding and keeps the setting. The old key can no longer be used, and the lock is configured for the new keys.
Efficiency and cost reduction for companies
This is particularly advantageous for companies, as randomly coded key sets can be purchased in advance and stored centrally. If a key is defective, the new set is immediately available, and the lock can be switched to the new keys in seconds. The same applies if a key is lost: no locksmith or safe technician is required. All of this comes at a significantly lower cost than making a single replacement key.
